(or rather dont ... ) Park = foot down and she trys to go forwards .. reverse =no movment at all BUT foot down , engine only goes to 2000 rpm..?? Neutral = she tries to pull forwards like it is in drive... Drive = tries to pull forward.... 2 = tries to pull forwards ...... 1 = tries to pull forwards .... so i hope you can see my problem.. what could it be ?? AND i need to move the car about 10 foot back so its outside my house ?? .. when the car in front moves tomorrow , if i try and drive it round and come in from the top, will it move ?? if not ,is there any way i can get it in neutral, or better still , reverse ?? plz guys ,,, i need some help here ..lol many thanks sad kev

Is it definitely filled to the correct level? the gear linkage ok and not stiff or broken? If you are desperate to move it you could use a large trolley jack under the rear just enough to lift the wheels or disconnect the propshaft? Or remove the plugs to stop compression and try an push it

I know next to nothing about auto-boxes, however.... Apart from the reverse, it sounds to me as if the linkage between gear stick and gearbox has broken/bent/gone out of adjustment. Is the reverse position really different from the others? Does the motion of the gear stick itself feel different to normal?

i believe the auto box takes at least 8.5 litres off auto transmission fluid (ATF) oil from empty have you changed the box or did it run out of oil

Easier to push it back the 10 feet than take the risk of it getting stuck 200yards up the road i would think. did you check the oil level??

Hello Kev. Does it thump around in gear ot just not respond? The one time I had an autobox run dry on me it thumped around in gear and juddered like a tractor trying to take up drive, check the level again and see if it's still up. Sounds like a bad linkage or otherwise the box has been damaged by running dry. The worst thing you can do is keep revving it to try moving it, will kill the autobox for sure. If it won't move then get help. If it were me I'd try it in drive and deal with it if and when it got stuck, otherwise it's going to sit there until the end of time Good luck Regards, Bruce.

Hi Kev, Just back from Scotland. Bad news mate, where it was low on oil the forward clutch has melted and is permanently engaged, hence forward drive in N & P and a bind up, (forward and reverse engaged at same time), in R. A bind up is a locked transmission, which is why your engine only goes to 2000 cos thats the end stall speed of the converter. New / Rebuilt box and converter time I'm afraid mate, , and make sure the oil cooler lines are flushed so as not to contaminate the new box with busted bits !! Regards, Dave
