Just a quick one to say hello. Just purchased a '97 Scorpio 2.3 Ultima Est. and thought it was about time I joined a forum for when the probs really begin Wink. Already have the cracked manifold/housing issue and a starting problem which may/maynot be related to battery. At least I have the batt. cover and the fuses etc are all dry. It's gonna be fun.....

All the best...

Cheers for the replies, nice to feel welcome Cheesy Starting issue sorted (was duff battery) sorted for £45. Cracked thermostat housing to be addressed soon after purchase of new inlet manifold, gaskets and thermostat cover for the princely sum of £340 from FMD (JESUS!!). Will be running without thermostat to reduce coolent pressure and help the engine run cooler, is this a good idea? Does a cracked head produce performance issues, mine runs sweet to upto a ban inducing terminal velocity...

Your thoughts, please...

Try FORD PARTS UK (send an email to trevor porter) for your spares they ussually are a lot cheaper than FMD and delivered to your door.
Not a problem running without a thermostat but IMHO I don't think it will do much good as now the weather is getting warmer it will most likely be open all of the time and the pressure in the system will be the same as with a stat!
Have you thought of using used parts?
Plenty of cars being broken ATM.

Rik, don't go with the FMD, the only part which really needs to be new it the thermo itself and that isn't that expensive. Several people have had luck repairing the inlet manifold in one way or another so have a good read through the forums before you part with your cash Wink.

Good luck and happy driving.

Yeah, tried FordPartsUK and got no reply. Have tried all my local breakers and the national networks (24/7 spares, breakeryard.com etc) and a WantItNow posting on Ebay and nobody had one. Thanks anyway, Dave. I looked everywhere.
Bruce, I'll have a go at repairing the manifold when its off the car but it's a massive split, holding the large rad hose and wiggling it moves the whole housing Shocked not good.  It's my only car and I live in the sticks so I can't have it down for too long while I attempt repairs or wait for parts. Still gonna be a cheap car, only gave £800 for it so I'm still smiling at the mo..

Thanks for the help, folks...
